Just walk away:
“I can’t just walk away from you,” I told him.
The pained look on his face showed just how much his emotions were killing him as he struggled to try and find the words to reply.
I cut him off before he could open his mouth.
“I once said that I wouldn’t walk away from you no matter what unless you cheated on me and you haven’t, I know that. And yet you pushed me away for whatever reason and I’m still here. Even when you think I’ve left your life forever, I will make sure you never forget me and I’ll come back, again and again. I refuse to believe you don’t want me. Your eyes give away the lies your mouth is speaking.”
I saw him give a shudder and collapse emotionally even though he remained standing.
I walked over to him and despite him being taller than me, I took him in my arms and enveloped him with all the love I could muster. I thought it was long dead or even worse, that it had deserted me, but in that embrace, it all came flooding back.
“I love you,” I whispered in his ear.
He hugged me tighter in response and I heard the words I’d been wanting to hear for over a year.
“I love you too.”
