Louisa was so confused.
Smith was talking about how he’d tweeted and then all his friends had laughed and said they had too.
She knew it would take some time getting used to everything, but she couldn’t quite connect her knowledge of birds and how, or even why, humans would want to do the same. She thought maybe she should just ask, so she did.
“Smith, why would you want to act like a bird and make bird noises?”
The laughter stopped.
Louisa raised her eyebrows. “Well?” she asked again.
The laughter started again. Smith clapped her on the back and said, ‘Good one! Where did you say you were from again?”
Louisa didn’t know how to reply to that. Was she supposed to say Kansas or 1864?
