As I looked around at my fellow passengers I realised everyone was staring at their phones. Nobody was making any eye contact.
Except for one beautiful man who couldn’t take his eyes off me.
He smiled back.
It was the first real human contact I’d had in weeks. Sure, I had people around me all the time, but no one spoke to me, no one looked at me and perhaps worst of all, no one even acknowledged my presence.
I felt like an alien on another planet. And maybe I was to some people.
I was a white Australian woman living in one of the most homogenous countries in the world.
