I wasn’t sure what went through his mind. Some people thought there was nothing happening up top but I knew there was; I could see the intelligence shining I n his eyes.
I sometimes found myself wishing I was like him. I loved how he approached everything in the world with wonder and awe.
He sat now in front of me rubbing his hands back and forth across the velvet rug. I knew how he loved the feeling of it against his skin and how he enjoyed watching the colors and textures change as he stroked it.
I knew many people found him strange but to me he was Nelly, my little boy with Asperger’s who saw the world through different eyes.
