I had found a terracotta tile amongst the rubble; a whole, intact, terracotta tile amongst tons of rubble.
How was that even possible? Was someone playing a joke on me?
I hoped not.
As an archaeologist, this kind of thing was unheard of and I didn’t know whether to shout it out aloud or keep it to myself. I wasn’t sure who to trust either to be honest.
I needed to tell someone about it, but the man I most needed to tell was my rival. He was THE most famous archaeologist of his time and I knew he’d be angry to think that what I had discovered was far more precious than his entire life work put together.
What was I going to do?
