I had finally decided it was time to buy a bike and stop walking around everywhere. I could cover a greater distance and I still had the option of stopping whenever I wanted to take photos.
That tiny black and silver key was the thing that had unlocked my heart for the first time in a long while.
I had spent the evening cycling all over town, exploring my favourite areas and smiling stupidly at things that felt like home.
It may have been an inanimate object, but it was reliable, trustworthy and made me smile. I couldn’t say the same about any man I knew or had dated recently.
I was in love with my bike and for now, that was enough.
