The call rang out like a lighthouse beacon, informing everyone that there was a fight on the oval yet again and that anyone was welcome to watch.
I hated fights. In fact, I hated conflict of any kind. I’d always distanced myself from anyone who was fighting, but this time I couldn’t, because one of the people involved, was me.
How did I get into this mess? I asked myself. I’d been asking myself that for days. The simple fact was that I knew what I believed in was the right thing to do and it just so happened that the biggest jock in school didn’t agree with me. He’d told me that to my face and I’d told him to his face that he was wrong.
I wouldn’t recommend taking that approach to anyone. Sometimes you should just shut your mouth.
Unfortunately, I’ve never been one of those people.
I had a feeling I was going to find out that standing up for what you believe in sometimes hurts. In this case, I suspect it was going to hurt a lot. At least, physically anyway.
