365 Days Writing Prompt Challenge: Day 220

220. Limerick:

I remember back in primary school (elementary for those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about), that we had been learning about poetry and my teacher had asked us to write a limerick.

Now don’t get me wrong. I love poetry, I love writing and I was good at it, but limericks were damn near impossible for me. Probably because I always thought of inappropriate rhyming words. This is why my poem never made it to the classroom wall. I suspect that my teacher had decided that male body parts weren’t something that needed to be discussed or read about by parents. I personally think they would have had a great laugh, but nope, it wasn’t to be.

I guess that’s when my poetry career was cut short and I decided to focus on longer pieces. Now I get to write about completely inappropriate, controversial things and sometimes they still get edited. Sigh.

Growing up isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
