365 Days Writing Prompt Challenge: Day 16

16. Addict:

‘Bang Bang Bang’ by the K-pop band, BigBang blasted out from my phone, which was located somewhere near my head where I’d left it last night. I fumbled around in the bedclothes wishing it wasn’t Monday morning, wishing it wasn’t some ungodly hour and wishing that I could stay home in bed instead of having to face the cold and snow.

“Shut up!” I groaned as the song continued until I finally managed to press the ‘snooze’ button on the alarm.

I lay back in bed again, mumbling to myself about the injustices in the world (well my world, at least) and rolled over. I came face-to-face with my laptop. I didn’t have time today. I needed to have a shower and eat breakfast.

The alarm sounded again.

“Jesus man!” I yelled at it. “I’m getting up… what the fuck?!”

I managed to get my leg caught in the blanket, half trip over my laptop and stumble into the bathroom, narrowly missing hitting my head on the side of the door. It was going to be one of those days.

I glanced back at my laptop and then at the clock on the wall. Surely I had time for just one…

Of course I did. If I skipped breakfast and fuck it, even my shower, I could have two before heading to work. It mightn’t have been the wisest choice, but no one would ever know, would they?

Just do it, my subconscious yelled. Stop dicking around.

I crawled back into bed, propped my laptop on my knees and grinned. My hands hovered over the keyboard, twitching in anticipation. I needed this hit, I needed it badly.

And with that, my right finger clicked the mousepad and the screen flashed to life.

Sometime later… a LOT later

I woke up with a crink in my neck and the sinking sensation you get in the pit of your stomach when something is wrong.

FUCK! I sat up so fast my head spun and I grabbed my phone to check the time.

Half a dozen messages from my boss and a few missed calls that I hadn’t heard, snapped me back to reality.

I was so, so late.

I’d said only two… but I couldn’t help myself. Two had turned into three, then four…

Yes, my name is Sally Martinez and I’m a Korean drama addict.
