The Wisdom of Disney

Yesterday I watched the Disney Pixar animated film, ‘Ratatouille’ with my cooking class at a local high school. Now remember, I’m teaching English here in Japan, so the movie was in English with Japanese subtitles and of course, the movie title is nothing like the original. In fact, it’s ‘レミーのおいしいレストラン’ which, when translated is literally, ‘Remy’s Delicious Restaurant.’

I love watching Disney movies because not only do they always have a moral, they always have these amazing quotes, which I furiously copy down as the characters impart these ‘pearls of wisdom.’ Of course, with the touch of a button, we are now able to find pages and pages of websites that document these gems for us, but I always find it more fun to write them down for myself.

So, without further ado, some of my favourite quotes from the movie…!

REMY: “If you focus on what you left behind you will never see what lies ahead!”

REMY: “Change IS nature, Dad. The part WE can influence. And it starts when we decide.”

REMY: “I can’t choose between two halves of myself.”

GUSTEAU: “You must not let anyone define your limits because of where you come from. Your only limit is your soul.”

GUSTEAU: “Anyone can cook but only the fearless can be great.”

And perhaps my personal favourite which I think has to have been ‘Quote of the Day,’ this one by Anton Ego:

“If I don’t love it, I don’t swallow.” That was gold.

Thanks Disney. You never fail me.
